Welcome to
“Our team has been hard at work since November 2022, repairing 1066 items and advising on 227 more for a total of 1141 visitors. We’re committed to helping our community one repair at a time.”
“While we couldn’t repair all items, often due to severe damage or missing parts, we’re proud of the positive impact we’ve made.
So what is a Repair Café?
Repair Café is all about fixing things together! It’s a community event where people come to get their broken items repaired by skilled volunteers. Whether you need a lamp fixed, a chair mended, or a gadget revived, our repair experts are ready to lend a hand.
There’s no pressure, no cost, and no guarantees. But if something can be saved, our volunteers will do their best to bring it back to life. They’re also passionate about sharing their knowledge, so you might even learn a new skill or two while you wait.
Join us for a fun, sustainable, and community-minded experience!
So, what do you do with a broken vacuum cleaner? Or with a bike when the wheel runs out of alignment? Or with a favorite jumper with a hole in it? Instead of tossing them out, why not bring them to a Repair Café?
At a Repair Café, you’ll find a community of skilled volunteers ready to lend a hand. Together, you can breathe new life into your beloved possessions, reduce waste, and learn valuable repair skills. It’s a win-win for you and the planet!
Bring it to The Malling and District Repair Café!
Bring Your Broken Belongings to Life
Our team of skilled volunteer repair experts will be on hand to breathe new life into your broken items, completely free of charge. While donations are always appreciated, they’re never mandatory.
What can you bring?*
Virtually anything portable that’s seen better days! From household appliances like vacuum cleaners and lamps to personal items such as clothes, bikes, and toys, our repair specialists have the knowledge and tools to tackle a wide range of repairs.
By promoting repairs, The Malling and District Repair Café aims to reduce the ever-growing mountains of waste. It’s a fact: we Brits throw away far too much, including perfectly good items that could easily be repaired. The Repair Café is here to change that, reminding us all that fixing things is not only practical but also rewarding.
Repair Café is more than just a place to fix things. It’s a platform for neighbors to connect and rediscover the value of community. By working together to repair a bike, a CD player, or a pair of trousers, you’ll form new bonds and appreciate the skills that exist right on your doorstep.
Beyond the social benefits, repairing items saves money, conserves resources, and reduces carbon emissions. Most importantly, Repair Café aims to demonstrate the sheer joy and simplicity of fixing things yourself.
Need help cleaning or assembling something? No problem! Bring it along, and we’ll do our best to help.
Just a small donation to cover the cost of materials and venue hire is all we ask.
*Please note, we cannot accept e-scooters, microwaves, electric blankets, large white goods or CRT devices like old televisions or old computer monitors.
A friendly reminder: To ensure everyone gets a fair chance, we kindly ask you to limit your repairs to one item per visit.
House Rules can also be seen on the Repair Registration clipboard.
