House Rules of the Repair Café

1. All repairs carried out at the Malling District Repair Café (MDRC) are performed at the customer’s own risk. The advice and the repair service are conducted by experienced and competent volunteers and there is no charge, but donations are welcome to cover costs including the purchase of tools and equipment and the development of the service.

2. All customers are required to complete this registration form for MDRC records before any repairs can be contemplated. A separate registration form must be completed for each item in a different category. MDRC is GDPR-compliant, and all information provided is treated with the utmost confidence and never passed to a third party. Photographs may be taken during each session of the Repair Café for publicity purposes, if you would rather not be photographed, please let us know. A copy of our Privacy Policy is available on the website at https://mallingrepaircafe.co.uk/privacy-policy/

3. Customers are expected to remain with the repairer while the repair is being carried out. Items should not be left with the repairer and collected later. There is no expectation that a repairer should repair the item at home. However, if a repairer offers to do this it will be a purely private arrangement and MDRC will take no responsibility nor will MDRC assume any responsibility for safe-keeping. The repairer and customer must also exchange contact details.

4. Neither the organisers of MDRC nor the repairers in personal capacities or otherwise are liable for any loss or injury whatsoever that may result from any repair carried out or for any advice or instructions given and used at a later date.

5. Neither the organisers of MDRC nor the repairers in personal capacities or otherwise are liable for any accidental damage that may occur to either visitors’ goods (including vehicles parked at owners’ risk in the venue car park) or personal effects during visitors’ time at the sessions.

6. The customer is responsible for providing any consumables such as leads, plugs, fuses, zips, etc. that may be needed to fully complete a repair. Advice will be given on what is required.

7. Repairers offer no guarantee for any repairs carried out with or without their help, and are not liable if any repaired items do not work properly at home or break down again in the future.

8. After making an initial assessment of an item, repairers are fully entitled to use their discretion and refuse to repair an item should they so decide.

9. Customers are responsible for the removal of all items that cannot be repaired.

10. Items will be examined on arrival in reception, and MDRC reserves the right to refuse to accept for repair any item that is considered too dangerous and/or damaged or obviously beyond repair. Customers should be aware that if any item submitted for repair is still under warranty, then the warranty will be voided.

11. MDRC takes no responsibility in any form for any item, repaired or otherwise, once it has left the premises where the Repair Café session is taking place.

12. To cut down on unnecessary waiting times during busy periods, a maximum of ONE broken item per person will be examined. The visitor will need to join the back of the queue if there is a second item for repair.

13. PLEASE NOTE: Potentially dangerous tools and equipment are present in the repair zone and sometimes used in repairs.  Parents must exercise control over, and be responsible for, the behaviour of their children whilst attending the Malling and District Repair Café.

Please note we do not repair Old CRT TVs, Microwaves or E-Scooters
